In a few days, my family and I are heading to the South Pacific for the month of November. We will be spending a week in Fiji, and then we’ll be flying to the Solomon Islands to attend the wedding of a close friend. The wedding will be hosted by the village of the groom’s family. This remote village is boat-access only, and doesn’t have electricity (except for a few lightbulbs in the church!) Residents rely on subsistence fishing and farming for their living. This is a place tourists rarely see, yet they are welcoming our group of twenty-five Canadians. We are incredibly excited about this adventure! Hopefully, I’ll have some time to create some artwork while I’m there. I also hope to practice some of the local arts and crafts, and perhaps share some skills of my own. I’ll be sharing photos when I return in December.
